Dr. Karen Stuart is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University, and her doctorate of medicine from Howard University. She completed a residency in OB/GYN at the University of Cincinnati. In practice since 1987 in Columbus, GA, Dr. Stuart has served on various hospital boards and committees at The Medical Center and Doctors Hospital. She also served as chairman of the OB/GYN Department at The Medical Center. Dr. Stuart has been a keynote or featured speaker at various women’s and teen health seminars. She lectures teens on pregnancy prevention strategies and STD’s. She also lectures to Family Practice residents at The Medical Center. Dr. Stuart maintains memberships in numerous organizations, including the National Medical Association, American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, Medical Association of Georgia, Georgia OB/GYN Society, Georgia State Medical Association, Muscogee County Medical Society, & Columbus-Ft. Benning Medical Association. She is active in the community through various civic organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Jack & Jill of America, and The Links Inc. Away from the office, Dr. Stuart enjoys traveling, gardening, scrapbooking, computers, and music. She looks forward to providing each patient quality, compassionate care.
Mary Jo Pugh is our Nurse Practitioner. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Alderson-Broaddus College in West Virginia, and then her certification as a women’s health nurse practitioner from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She has been with Womencare for over 10 years, and provides comprehensive well-woman care, contraceptive counseling, STD testing and treatment, and screening for cervical cancer, HPV, breast cancer, and many diseases that women are concerned about. She is proficient in IUD insertion and removal, Implanon insertion and removal, Diaphragm fitting, and adolescent examinations.
Daria Coleman, LPN is our surgery scheduling and triage nurse. She originally hails from upstate New York. Daria assists with most of the in-office surgeries, and provides patient education. She is our "everything nurse"!
Mamie Williams is our insurance and billing specialist. She has been with Womencare since it's beginning in 1990. She is originally from Columbus. She skillfully handles patient insurance claims and billing from beginning to end, and can answer all of your financial questions regarding your healthcare.
Dr. Stuart was the first in the region to perform Essure tubal sterilization, microwave and Her Option endometrial ablation. She also performs laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy and laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomies. Dr. Stuart is comfortable removing large fibroids laparoscopically that most physicians would remove through an open abdominal incision. Patients are able to return to work and resume their normal activities much quicker with minimally invasive procedures.
Other procedures include: Pelvic prolapse repair, Vaginal & abdominal hysterectomy, myomectomy, sterilization procedures, IUD insertion, Implanon insertion, colposcopy, LEEP, treatment of benign and pre-invasive vulvar and vaginal disease, routine well woman care, contraceptive management, adolescent gynecology. In-office surgeries include hysteroscopy, LEEP, endometrial ablation, tubal ligation, and limited in-office ultrasound services.

Appointments & Cancellations
Appointments are available Monday through Thursday from 9AM-5PM, and Friday from 9AM-2PM. After hours and emergency access is available by calling our office number and the answering service will contact Dr. Stuart or the on call physician immediately.
If for any reason you need to change or cancel your appointment, please phone us at 706-322-4950 as soon as possible so that we can accommodate you and/or other patients accordingly.
To make your visit to our office as pleasant and efficient as can be, we have provided some forms to assist you in providing us with some necessary information. This information will be used will be used to ensure that we comply with your insurance carrier's requirements and will also assist the doctor in providing your care. Enclosed you will find your registration form, History and Physical form and Financial Policy Agreement.
- Please fill out all information on the forms, sign where indicated, and mail or fax them to us at least 10 days prior to your appointment.
- Please let us know if you have had x-rays, ultrasounds or labs elsewhere, so that we may request those records be sent to our office prior to your appointment. This is especially important if you are being referred by another doctor.
